Liberty takes Celtic Hip-Hop to the next level with a boldly unique fusion of Scottish and Irish rebel music and rap. The music combines the passion and deep roots of resistance embodied by the rebel bards of the Celtic Diaspora with the directness and relevance of politically conscious hip hop in a truly seamless fusion that is both deeply rooted in tradition and history and brand new.
“Liberty” was released Sept. 12 2008, the seventh anniversary of the US Government’s current War on Freedom. The new album keeps the same razor-sharp political slant that fans of the band have come to know and love – the album tackles issues ranging from the inequalities caused by neo-liberal globalization and structural imperialism to the long history of support for dictators and despots around the world by both Democratic and Republican administrations. It’s not all doom and gloom, however. As Emma Goldman famously put it there’s no point in having a revolution if people can’t dance to it, and even their most serious tracks boast infectiously danceable rhythms. Throw in a few up-tempo tracks like Reclaim the Streets, 1234, and Kilted and you’ve got the perfect soundtrack for a revolution near you.
